Hale, Sir Matthew
(1 nov. 1609, Alderley, Gloucestershire, Inglaterra–25 dic. 1676, Alderley).

Erudito jurídico británico. Huérfano a la edad de cinco años, planeó convertirse en pastor, pero finalmente escogió el estudio del derecho. Defendió al arzobispo William Laud y a otros realistas durante las guerras civiles inglesas (1642–51). Como juez del Tribunal de Acciones Civiles (1654–58) y miembro del parlamento (1654–60), cumplió un importante papel en la reforma del sistema jurídico y en promover la restauración de Carlos II. Más tarde se convirtió en barón jefe del Exchequer (1660) y en presidente del Tribunal del Rey (1671–76). Uno de los más grandes eruditos en la historia del common law, es mayormente conocido por su libro History of the Pleas of the Crown [Historia de los alegatos de la Corona] (publicado en 1736).
